The benefits of molds' digitalization in different manufacturing sectors

Digital supply chain transformation has become a rather familiar theme for many global manufacturers over the years. The demand for solutions with respect to this issue is exploding worldwide, with various forms of solutions making their way including MATIX, which comes to this fast-growing market with a new perspective and great ambition. MATIX believes it can redefine supply chain management and digital transformation with its IIoT-based solution dedicated to tracking various KPIs related to industrial molds.

Here are some data, numbers, and percentages about the advantages that digital data about molds can give to different industrial sectors:

  1. Automotive industry: According to a study by Siemens, using digital data on molds can reduce tooling costs in the automotive industry by up to 30% and reduce time-to-market by up to 50%.

  1. Aerospace industry: A study by Deloitte found that Industry 4.0 technologies, including digital manufacturing technologies like digital molds, can reduce production lead times in the aerospace industry by up to 30%.

  1. Medical device industry: A study by PwC found that digital manufacturing technologies can reduce time-to-market in the medical device industry by up to 35%.

  1. Consumer goods industry: According to a report by McKinsey & Company, using digital data on molds can reduce the time required for new product introductions in the consumer goods industry by up to 50%.

  1. Electronics industry: A study by Deloitte found that Industry 4.0 technologies, including digital manufacturing technologies like digital molds, can reduce production lead times in the electronics industry by up to 20%.

  1. Overall benefits: A study by PwC found that companies that adopt digital manufacturing technologies can achieve up to a 20% increase in productivity, a 30% reduction in defects, and up to a 50% reduction in time-to-market.

These numbers highlight the potential advantages that digital data about molds can provide across different industrial sectors, including cost savings, faster time-to-market, and increased productivity and quality.

MATIX provides manufacturers with a two-part solution co-developed with Electrolux: a wireless IoT device and a Cloud-based Dashboard. The wireless IoT sensors are installed on the various manufacturers' equipment and automatically transmit crucial data on shot count, cycle time, mold location etc. to the server with encryption. The stored data is then processed through our software, providing production managers with customized reports and visualizations of salient data.

MATIX's solution is distinguished by a strong emphasis on data visibility and the use of the NB-IoT cellular connection, which allows for total independence in data collection and sending. Accurate data and advanced analytics are achieved through algorithms written by our engineers, customized for each customer, and enable manufacturers to improve strategic sourcing, part quality assurance, asset management, and risk management.

Our long-term goal is to enable global visibility of the mold-related supply chain to achieve operational excellence through a collaborative system, benefiting both manufacturers and their suppliers. Certainly the MATIX Box is a facilitator of this process.

Our solution has brought world-renowned industry giants to collaborate with us. Electrolux was the first to understand the value of mold digitization and this has resulted in a reduction in mold CAPEX, but other giants such as EMAK, Tecnica, Antonio Carraro, Keter, VIMAR, and Nice have perceived the benefits this solution can bring and have become customers.
